It’s a girl! We found out this morning that we are having a girl and we are all pretty excited! Jake was pretty happy even though yesterday he told me that he would be sure to push the “boy” button to ensure that he was going to have a brother.
Her name is Abigail, a name that I never considered. I was trying to get Jon to like the name Ainsley. So, why Abigail? I was reading a Max Lucado book and I think the title of it was Facing Your Giants or something along that line. Jon’s parents got it for us 2 Christmases ago. I finally picked it up late spring or early summer…can’t really remember now. I had never read any of his books before but I was quickly pulled in by it. It has to do really with the story of David. (Starting to draw some conclusions now?) I came across the story of how David and his men were hungry and came across Nabal who had food to spare. Nabal refused to give them food. David gathered some of his men and they set off to kill Nabal. (Yes, I am leaving a lot out…go read it!) Abigail got wind of this and gathered food for David and his men. She met up with him and fell at his feet, bowing and saying to David, “On me, my lord, on me let this iniquity be!” She was willing to take the brunt of what was going to happen to her husband! Wow! In the book it said that “her story prefigures his life.” (Lucado p.59 -it’s been a long time since I have referenced something so please forgive it if I did it wrong.) His life being Christ’s life and how He faced the cross for us so that we can be saved. She knew her husband was a “fool” and yet she was willing to die. What an amazing woman! She later became David’s wife and Nabal later died at the hands of God and not David. Do read the story if you are not familiar with it! 1Samuel 25.
Anyway, after reading that chapter God spoke to me saying that we were to have a girl and she was to be named Abigail. This was before we were ever pregnant! I was reluctant to tell people the story until we knew for sure. This just shows how big God is to me and yet so personal! Once I told Jon what God had told me , he was on board! So we are obediently naming her Abigail. And we all love the name!
