Sweet Valentine

I am fortunate enough to have a family who LOVES music as much as I do. I mean really loves music! Jon can play the guitar and he lead worship for a small group that he was a part of in college. I have been singing ever since I can remember. Just can’t play any instruments…yet! (It’s never too late to learn right?!) And Jake…well we always said that he was our little “rocker”. When I was pregnant with him I sang a song in church that was more edgy than your typical song sung in church. Jake liked it! Once he was born, I can remember singing songs to him and that was the only way that he would calm down when he was crying. As Jake has gotten older his love for music has only grown. We don’t shelter him from music that we like…Jon had to introduce him to his all time favorite bands U2 and Coldplay. I stuck with mostly Christian and a little Jack Johnson (thanks to our friend Missy:) ). Jake can identify an artist with such ease that it is quite funny. I can remember a time when we were eating at Chili’s with my mom and Jake heard a familiar song playing overhead. He turned to our waiter and said, “That’s Coldplay!” The waiter was caught off guard and said, “Yeah, you’re right.” The look on his face was priceless. Jake was about 3 at the time.
His favorite part of going to church is going to the Celebration Zone. It is now in our old sanctuary (we recently built a bigger one). That is where kids his age go to worship. That is ALL that he talks about! He truly loves to worship. It is so neat to watch him and even worship with him. He doesn’t hold back. He dances, sings at the top of his lungs, and just plain worships. It is the sweetest sight. I hope that he never loses that. With all that said Jon and I talked about what to get him for Valentine’s Day this year. I didn’t want to get him another tractor or toy for that matter. His all time favorite worship song came on the radio and we just knew that we had to get him that CD. I am sure that you have all heard it…”He Reigns” by the Newsboys. So I ran all over town yesterday to find him that CD and I did. Now we are listening to it all the time. That is the best Valentine’s gift I could get as well… to see my child’s eyes light up as he is worshiping.
So, to all Happy Valentine’s Day and may all God’s children sing “Glory, Glory, Hallelujah, He Reigns!”
