I'm Just a Girl

No, I am not about to quote the line at the end of “Notting Hill” where Julia Roberts is pledging her love to Hugh Grant. Nor am I quoting the song from Gwen Stefani although I do love that song! I’m just stating it for me. I have often in my adult years thought of myself to be more of a tomboy than a girly girl. Although one of my oldest and dearest girlfriends growing up said that she always thought of me as a girly girl. This was over a conversation that we had on the phone while I was shopping for accessories for an outfit for Jon’s banquet and me telling her that I was scared about having a girl! The irony!
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE girly things. I just don’t know how to truly wear them. Yes, I can name the latest fashion styles and even the designers. I swear I was the first to get my subscription to InStyle magazine when it first came out! I have since stopped and replaced it for Runner’s World Magazine. Get where I am going with this? I am not into buying designer labels unless it is Asics or Nike. Armani? Dolce and Gabbana? Coach? Juicy Couture? OK, Juicy for me is what my running hat is after a good long run! Squeeze that puppy and let the juices flow! Yuck! The latest watch Tag Heuer-nope!…Garmin please! Hey, it can rival! It has a GPS, a digital running partner and a heart rate monitor. The latest hair accessory…a black Nike hat with my nicely coiffed pony tail flopping about.
And yes, I am a snob about them. I will only wear Asics running shoes. Why? They are the best! When I go to my running group on Saturday mornings you can bet I am looking down to see who is wearing what shoes. Going to races for me is like going to the Oscars- of running shoes! Who are you wearing? Look at those colors, designs, etc. And my biggest issue when going on a run or especially to a race is what to wear. What color shirt? Should I wear my capris or tights? Running shorts or the latest fashion among women runners…a skirt? Yes, I did say a skirt. It is kind of like the tennis skirts but they are designed for runners! Trust me! I accidentally looked at a skirt only to be told that it was a tennis skirt. There is a difference! Such a hard decision. And I struggle with mixing designers, I mean brands. Do I dare wear an Asics shirt with my Nike skirt? And did I mention that I have a pair of socks to match almost every outfit! OK, now I sound like a girly girl!
However, I am more comfortable in a pair of shorts, t-shirt and running shoes than a cute little ensemble. Trust me, if I could I’d hire a personal shopper, I would. Although I would tag along because I do LOVE to shop!
So yes, I am just a girl. Just a running girl who is trying to keep up with the latest fashions…in running that is! :)

Good luck this weekend at the Cowtown Race! You were the first one who introduced me to running. Although, I don't have the love for it that you do--I remember our runs together with fond memeories!

Love ya,
Erin

Us guys definitely have it easier. We just grab what we ran in yesterday and give it the sniff test (If you can hold the shirt/shorts/socks in your hand and bend your elbow at least 25 degrees towards your nose without your eyes watering, then you can wear it again).

Knock 'em dead at the Cowtown!
